Week 12

Image
This week I finished every part of the model that my group assigned me to do. In total this includes: the body from neck to feet, the characters jacket, skirt, boots and a sort of scarf. The only thing I still had to do this week was the scarf so after finishing that I sent my file to my group.  Overall I am very happy with the final look of the model, it looks almost identical to the model in the production bible, there were not really any changes I made to the model, it just looks slightly more realistic and not as cartoony as the model sheet. I still tried to stick to the cartoon look but in 3D it gets lost a little.  Next we just have to connect the body with the head that my group member made and then place it with the motorcycle our other group member made. Overall I think we divided up the jobs fairly well and we communicated what we were doing. Although we were missing a fourth group member we still did ok and I do not feel that anyone was doing too much work. Ha...

Week 11

At the start of this week I finished the body. It does not look perfect and when mirroring the one side do make my full body there were some other little mistakes that I tried fixing a bit but overall I am quite happy with how it turned out.  After finishing the body I got started on the clothes and the colouring.  To make the skirt I made a plane and warapped it around the waist, shaping it as I went along to make it look right. For the jacket I cloned the character torso and then played around with it to make it look like a jacket. I made the zipper separately and will attach it o the jacket aftyerwards. The boot was fairly simple, I just made a larger, less shaped and detailed version of the foot and made some slight changes. After I have added the colour I will mirror it to make the second one. There were some errors going on with the colouring. UV unwrapping and using the 3D paint tool did not work no matter how many things I tried but I managed to get it done by co...

Week 10

This week was mostly spent on the waist, stomach and buttocks of the character, the latter proved to be the most difficult part I have experienced so far. It was very tedious and slow work but I think I managed and the shape of the lower torso and finished legs somewhat resembles my model sheet, although the model sheet is slightly unhelpful when trying to figure out the proportions of my character as she wears a baggy hoodie and a skirt so the only reference I have is the width of her shoulders and the small amount of leg that is visible between the skirt and boots.  A lot of the work has been somewhat repetitive just extruding the faces and moving verteces to make the body look right.

Week 9

This week I started on the actual model. I am working on the body for my group so I started with the feet. Overall I think some of the proportions look a little weird becasue the character model sheet does not really show much and is a very cartoony style which is hard to transfer to 3D when I am going off the Joan of Arc tutorial but I think I did alright. So far I have found the Joan of Arc tutorial very useful but at times I have noticed that the proportions and body shape are wildly different from my model sheet and having to improvise a little and do things that are not on the tutorial has been interesting. I am now just following the tutorial and slowly working my way up the body. I am happy with the current look but will probably make some more changes later on, especially when it is smoothed.

Week 8

What makes the design unique? The colour scheme and the cartoony shape.  What are some examples from the commercial space (TV/Film/Games etc) that are in the same general idea as the bible you are working from? Our character strongly resembles GoGo Tomago from Big Hero 6   How cohesive are the vehicle and character in the provided bible? They share the same colourscheme as well as the lines and small details on the characters clothes being similar to those on the vehicle Why are you either making changes to the provided bible designs or leaving them without changes? (discuss this in terms of visual design here, not just "It's fine as it is). The design is somewhat simple, the only change we are making is adding fingers to the hand which the character in the provided bible does not have. This last week has been mostly spent getting a better understanding of maya by using tools like the Joan of Arc tutorial.

Week 6

This week was mostly spent compiling everything into the production bible. I finished the last touches to my model sheets and began bringing all our elements into the final production bible that we will be submitting.  We finished the production bible and poster and submitted the final assignment. I am quite satisfied with the final product, we met our aesthetic needs quite well and created a creative, original and fun character and vehicle design.  The main issue in our finished production bible was the lack of drawing skills on my part so some drawings are not perfect but I think they convey the important information that a 3D artist would need.

Week 5

Image
This week we started making the technical drawings of our design.  Front View: Side View Back View: Top View: A difficulty I encountered was redrawing my design from new perspectives, this was quite difficult to do and took alot of time. I also made my first three model sheets not knowing they should be in black and white and so spent a lot more time on it than I needed to.  This week we also started thinking of designs for our poster. Since Carter has now finished all the parts of the character, we can combine the two elements for our final poster art.
